US Vice President JD Vance has publicly expressed his hope that his wife, Usha Vance, who was raised Hindu, will one day embrace Christianity. Speaking at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi, Vance shared that Usha accompanies him to church most Sundays and that while he sincerely wishes she will be “moved by the same thing” that inspired his Christian faith, he respects her free will. The couple, who met at Yale Law School before Vance’s conversion to Catholicism in 2019, has decided to raise their three children in the Christian faith, with their two oldest enrolled in a Christian school.
Vance emphasized that his wife’s current faith does not cause any problems in their marriage, underscoring mutual respect and their “own arrangement” for their intercultural household. His remarks sparked a broader discussion on religious tolerance and interfaith families in America. Despite some backlash, Vance framed his hope as a personal wish rather than a pressure, affirming his commitment to both faith and family harmony.
