The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ rule has been implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to streamline toll collection and enhance efficiency at toll plazas across the country.
This initiative, which came into force on April 1, aims to discourage the practice of using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle. The move follows reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and instances of FASTags being used without proper KYC compliance, violating RBI regulations.
With the new rule in effect, individuals with multiple FASTags for one vehicle will no longer be able to use all of them. This measure is intended to address issues such as toll plaza delays caused by drivers not placing FASTags on their windshields, inconveniencing other highway users.
The NHAI’s decision to enforce the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ rule underscores the importance of compliance with electronic toll collection norms and regulations.
The FASTag system, which operates through Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, has significantly revolutionized toll collection in India, boasting a penetration rate of approximately 98% and over 8 crore users nationwide.
