European Commission confirms cyberattack on cloud infrastructure

The European Union’s top executive body confirmed on Friday that it had been hit by a cyberattack. “We have taken immediate steps and contained the attack,” Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier told TechCrunch, adding that “the Commission’s internal systems were not affected.” The breach affected the EU’s cloud infrastructure hosting its web presence on the Europa.eu platform. Hacker group ShinyHunters, which has been linked to several high-profile breaches in recent months, claimed responsibility.

Separately, the Iran-linked hacktivist group Handala claimed it hacked the personal email of FBI Director Kash Patel, leaking files. In a statement shared with Reuters, the FBI confirmed Patel’s emails had been targeted and said necessary steps had been taken “to mitigate potential risks.” The agency said the published data was “historical in nature and involves no government information,” with the leaked emails dating to 2010 and 2019.

India’s technology spending is forecast to grow 13.4% in 2026, the highest rate in Asia-Pacific, according to figures cited in PTI reports.
