Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru launched their Indian Premier League 2026 title defence in emphatic style, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets with 26 balls to spare at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday night.
New Zealand debutant Jacob Duffy set the tone with a stellar powerplay spell, dismissing Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy to leave SRH at 29/3. A recovery partnership between stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan, who scored 80 off 38 balls, and Heinrich Klaasen helped SRH reach 201/9. Kishan made history as SRH’s second-youngest captain.
Chasing 202, Devdutt Padikkal blasted 61 off just 26 balls, and Virat Kohli anchored the innings with an unbeaten 69 off 38 to record his 64th IPL half-century. Kohli was named Player of the Match. RCB completed the chase in 15.4 overs, according to the BCCI’s official match report. Duffy was named the game’s star performer.
